If you are thinking of creating a lot, starting a new business, or relocating to OSM, contact us and we will help you through the approval process.
The Planning Act and its regulations govern land use in Ontario. Under the Planning Act, there are Provincial Policy Statements which must be followed by all municipalities. Some Ministries have set Guidelines for land use such as the Ministry of Agriculture's Minimum Distance Separations (MDS) for livestock and manure facilities.
The Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe also applies to Otonabee-South Monaghan. The Growth Plan requires that new growth be directed to settlement areas and limits activities in the rural area.
The County of Peterborough has an Official Plan. The County OP sets the overall direction for land use across the eight member municipalities, including OSM Township. The County is currently working to create a new Official Plan. For further information on the project and to learn how residents can get involved, follow this link and check back often for updates.
The Provincial and County land use policies are implemented through the Township Official Plan and Zoning By-law.
