A land recognition statement recognizes the traditional territory of the Indigenous people(s), and is a sign of gratitude and respect.

Land Recognition Statement

"We would like to begin by acknowledging the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan is located on the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Peoples.
These are Treaty 20 and Williams Treaties lands.
We encourage everyone to educate themselves on the details of these documents and the influence of First Nations in Canada’s history.
The Council of Otonabee-South Monaghan recognize these contributions and commit to actions which demonstrate respect for the environment and in keeping with
First Nation tradition, reflects the security of the next seven generations."
