Welcome to Otonabee-South Monaghan
On January 1, 1998, the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan was created through the amalgamation of Otonabee and South Monaghan. Even though the Otonabee River separates them, the similarities of these municipalities made the meld effortless for the residents and council. Both municipalities have a strong agricultural base and numerous tourist resorts located on Rice Lake and the Otonabee River. The northern part of the township borders the City of Peterborough and with Highway 7 going through it makes this a prime location for industrial and commercial venues with room for expansion. To visit us you will travel east on the 401 out of Toronto and then go north on County Road 28 at Port Hope. As you reach the north shores of Rice Lake you will be entering our township. Should you choose to take a leisurely road tour you could go east on any road after Rice lake and travel our small well maintained country roads viewing the gently rolling farmers’ fields showcasing either crops or livestock or you could decide to stay at one of the waterfront resorts listed in our business directory. As you travel further north you will find the area getting more heavily populated as you approach our commercial and industrial area located just outside the city limits of Peterborough. To our residents, we hope our website serves to keep you informed of news and happenings in the township or is able to answer questions you may have regarding regulations of things you may be planning to do. To our visitors, we hope our website provides you with sufficient information to entice you to include our township as a place you would like to visit and who knows, maybe even move to.
