Garbage Collection Guidelines

Households
• Each household may place up to two (2) standard-sized clear garbage bags at the curb each week.

Businesses
• Businesses may place up to four (4) standard-sized clear garbage bags at the curb each week.
• If your business produces more than four bags per week, please arrange service with a private waste contractor.

Collection Timing
• Garbage must be placed at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on collection day.
• Do not place garbage out the night before to help prevent issues with wildlife.

Note: OSM implemented a clear bag program in 2020.

**Waste Connections of Canada is not responsible for garbage torn open by animals, and homeowners/businesses must clean up any roadside litter caused by opened bags.

Waste Exemption for Medical Reasons

If a resident with a medical condition has the probability to generate excess amounts of non-hazardous waste beyond their control, they can apply for an exemption from the maximum weekly established limit for curbside pick-up.

Composting & Green Waste

Composting is not mandatory, organic material may go in the clear garbage bag. If you would like to reduce organic material in the garbage, you can compost at home or by taking your organic material to the OSM Transfer Station. All information is available on the Peterborough County website.
