WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY

Recent and above-normal air temperatures and rain may weaken ice cover in areas previously deemed safe for on-ice recreational activities. These weather conditions can cause slippery and unstable shorelines conditions.  

People should expect higher than normal water levels and flows in area watercourses as a result of increased run-off from rain and snowmelt.  

No flooding is expected.

​Through its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program, Otonabee Conservation actively monitors water levels, flows, weather forecasts and other factors to alert our partners in food emergency management about current and forecasted watershed conditions relevant to flooding. This WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT-WATER SAFETY is effective immediately and will remain in effect until Wednesday, January 14, 2026 unless updated earlier.

A Watershed Conditions Statement – Water Safety is issued when high flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors are create dangerous conditions near water.  Flooding is not expected.
