WATERSHED CONDITIONS STATEMENT – WATER SAFETY issued for all lakes and rivers in the region. Currently there are no flooding concerns.
Issued to: Municipalities, water management authorities, Indigenous communities, Ministry of Natural Resources and Otonabee Conservation’s other partners in flood emergency management
Conditions: Increased temperatures and 10 to 20 mm of rain overnight on Thursday may result in increased water levels and flow as frozen ground will have limited ability to absorb the runoff from rain and snowmelt. Rain will change to snow on Friday, December 19th as temperatures begin to drop but no flooding is expected.
The public is advised to stay away from watercourses and stay off ice-covered waterbodies as they pose safety risks due to fast-moving water, unstable banks and weakened ice conditions.
Through its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program, Otonabee Conservation actively monitors water levels, flows, weather forecasts and other factors to alert our partners in food emergency management about current and forecasted watershed conditions relevant to flooding.
