The Township must receive a copy of the registered transfer deed before making any changes to the ownership of properties. This helps ensure accuracy and protection for all property owners.
If you receive a tax bill from the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan for a property you no longer own, please direct the bill to your lawyer and the new owner of the property. If you have received a bill, this means that you are still listed as the owner of the property and should send a copy of the registered transfer deed to the Township as soon as possible.
In order to prevent misdirected tax bills, please ensure you advise the Township in writing of the mailing address change. The default mailing address for all properties is the civic address. For example, if you purchase a cottage but live in another city, your property tax bill will be sent to the cottage unless we are notified to change the mailing address.
You can fill out the mailing address change form and submit it to the Township at our office, by mail or by e-mail. We are unable to change mailing addresses without written consent of the property owner.
Failure to redirect your tax bills or advise of a change in mailing address could result in a penalty and interest charges of 1.25% per month on overdue tax accounts.
