Position description
The position description shows the full listing of required knowledge, skills and abilities for a Recruit Firefighter.
Some requirements are:
- Have sound judgement, be resourceful and in good physical condition,
- Ability to support and work as a team,
- Close proximity to one of our four (4) fire stations,
- Knowledge of or be willing to learn:
- Roads and information about the township and surrounding areas protected by agreement,
- Types of buildings in the Municipality,
- Rescue and first aid procedures,
- Safety procedures, rules and equipment,
- Modern firefighting and fire prevention methods,
- Department Operating Guidelines.
What to expect
Successful candidates will be required to attend the Recruit Course at the Eastern Ontario Emergency Training Academy (EOETA) upon hire. This course runs on weekends starting in January of each year, and finishes at the end of June.
Successful candidates with the NFPA 1001 Firefighter II level of training are exempt from attending the Recruit Course.
The Department trains in the evenings on the second and fourth Tuesday each month, for a minimum of 2 hours each training session.
