The Otonabee-South Monaghan Department of Fire and Emergency Services inspects for compliance with the Ontario Fire Code under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act (FPPA), based on request and/or complaint.
The focus of an inspection is to make home owners or occupants aware of their responsibilities for maintaining fire safe buildings and of ways to prevent hazards.
By doing so, the intent is that there will be a reduction in the number and severity of fires and significant decrease in the risk to loss of life and property.
Any inspection conducted must include notification of the property owner.
Under the Ontario Fire Code Section 2.8 "Emergency Planning", you will find the requirements for buildings requiring a Fire Safety plan.
If you require a plan for your building, our department has a Fire Safety Plan Template to help you get started.
If you have questions about the template or the requirements for a Fire Safety Plan, please contact the Fire Department for guidance.
