The Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan has an Exotic Animal By-law.
The by-law prohibits the keeping, exhibition and transportation of exotic, wild and non-domestic animals within the Township.
Below is a short list of some of the exotic animals you are not allowed to keep in the Township as pets:
- Alligators
- Anaconda
- Apes
- Boa Constrictors
- Chimpanzees
- Crocodiles
- Eagles
- Falcons (except those which are licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources)
- Mink
- Monkeys
- Owls
- Pythons
- Scorpions
- Skunks
- Snakes (not native to North America, and/or larger than 2 metres)
- Tarantulas

Livestock, poultry or other farm animals are only permitted in area zoned for agriculture.
Residential properties do not permit these farm animals as pets.
