Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) requires that all municipalities have an Emergency Management program, under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, R.S.O. 1990.
The Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan's program consists of:
- Municipal Emergency Plan (MEP), adopted by By-law 2012-76.
- Annual training programs and exercises.
- Public education on risks to public safety and preparedness for emergencies.
- Business Continuity program for municipal services.
The MEP was developed by considering the important infrastructure in the Township, and by identifying the risks and hazards in OSM Township. The MEP is reviewed and updated annually.
In an emergency, the Municipal Control Group uses the Incident Management System (IMS) in the MEP to help bring a situation under control as quickly as possible.
